Wesley Thompson, MD, DABFP
Wesley D. Thompson, M.D., his wife, Lachelle, and daughters, Paige and Claire, are originally from Olney and currently live in Fairfield. Dr. Thompson has been practicing in Fairfield since completing his Family Practice Residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana, in June of 2003. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to medical school, he taught Biology at Olney Central College.
Dr. Thompson serves our country as a Battalion Surgeon in the Illinois Army National Guard, with prior active duty service in Baghdad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is an active member in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, the Christian Medical and Dental Society, the Wilderness Medical Society, and the Army Medical Department. He completed additional training in endoscopy of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tracts for screening and therapeutic purposes. He also enjoys and received additional training in tactical and wilderness medicine.
Dr. Thompson is the son of Russell and Peggy Jausel of Olney, and Tom Duvall of Fairfield. He is the grandson of Helen Price of West Liberty, and Fanny Duvall of Fairfield.
When talking about why he chose to move his practice to Horizon Healthcare, Dr. Thompson said, “While building upon an already knowledgeable and caring medical staff at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Horizon Healthcare will allow me to enhance patient care in a more comfortable and personable environment. Through continued expansion, we will add services that were previously available only to those in larger cities. And most importantly, my family will continue to grow as part of Fairfield. When asked what to tell people about Horizon Healthcare, my daughter, Paige stated, ‘You will be welcome in our new clinic.’"
Phillip Blaich, PA-C
Phillip Blaich, PA-C resides in Fairfield area with his wife, Vicki. Mr. Blaich received his Bachelor of Science Degree – Physician Assistant from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, Nebraska, in 1978, while in the Air Force. He later received his Masters of Science in Administration from Georgia College, Milledgeville, Georgia in 1987. During his administrative career Mr. Blaich served at the Pentagon, United States Air Force, Washington, DC, as the Director of Congressional Affairs, Personnel. After retiring from the Air Force Mr. Blaich returned to practice as a Physician Assistant. He has served in various communities throughout the United States including a very small Montana community, where he was one of only three medical providers in the county.
Mr. Blaich says he is proud to have served his country for twenty-three years in the military and now will be equally proud to live and work in Fairfield, Illinois providing healthcare to friends and neighbors. He is excited about the opportunity to work with Drs. Ballard and Thompson in the new clinic providing a seamless extension of the quality care they are already known for in this area.
When talking about why he chose Fairfield, Mr. Blaich stated,” Working in a rural setting in Montana was the most rewarding experience of my career. It revealed to my wife and I that we want to spend the rest of our lives in a community where we know our patients as neighbors, and we can become an integral part of a small, close community.”

Kyle Kakac, MD, DABFM
Fairfield Memorial Hospital has welcomed Kyle Kakac, MD, DABFM, who has joined Horizon Healthcare, a new affiliate of Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Kakac is a family practice physician who will begin practicing at Horizon Healthcare on November 3, and will see patients of all ages.
He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford in 2001. He completed his family medicine residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, IN. Before coming back home to practice medicine he has worked in emergency medicine at some southern Illinois hospitals including Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon and Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Other hospital emergency departments at which he as been employed include St. Mary’s Warrick Hospital; Boonville, IN; Harrison County Hospital, Corydon, IN; Kremmling Memorial Hospital, Kremmling, CO; 7 Mile Medical Center, Winter Park, CO.
Dr. Kakac was born and raised in Fairfield and is excited to return to his hometown.. He has interests in rural medicine, emergent care, public health, and taking care of residents in underserved areas.
"I am excited about moving back to Wayne County. I have been fortunate to have lived, worked, and traveled to a variety of places. However, I am so glad to be back in Southern Illinois, especially Fairfield where I grew up and have so many fond memories. I can think of no better place to live, especially with so many friends and family in the area," said Dr. Kakac
“It is with great pleasure that we add Dr. Kakac to Horizon Healthcare and Fairfield Memorial Hospital. I have known and trained alongside Dr. Kakac for a number of years. As a Fairfield native, he will bring continued compassion and expertise to our medical staff,” said Dr. Wesley Thompson.
Dr. Kakac will be moving to Fairfield in the near future. Dr. Kakac is the son of Rev. Carroll and Karen Kakac, and the brother of Kevin Kakac, Wayne County States Attorney, and Kim Skaggs, RN, Wayne County Health Department WIC Coordinator, who both currently reside in Fairfield with their families.
Lois Dishman, MPAS, PA-C
Lois Dishman, MPAS, PA-C, resides in Fairfield. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree – Physician Assistant from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 2001 with Cum Laude honors. Ms. Dishman later received her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies/Geriatrics in 2006 from the University of Nebraska, College of Medicine.
As a Physician Assistant, Ms. Dishman will care for patients of all ages and can also perform minor surgical procedures including lesion removal and cryotherapy. She has a specific interest in women’s health and geriatrics, but also within her scope of practice she can see patients with acute or chronic problems.
When speaking about joining Horizon Healthcare, Ms. Dishman stated, “I’m excited to be joining the caring experienced group of providers at Horizon as they build a state of the art facility to better meet the needs of the community.”
“Based on requests from patients for a female provider, Ms. Dishman will give the patients that option. She also will be a great asset in caring for the growing number of geriatric patients within our service area,” said Kathy Bunting, FMH CEO.
Ms. Dishman was a National Health Service Corps Scholarship recipient. After practicing in a Rural Health Clinic in Florida, she returned to Southern Illinois and has been practicing in McLeansboro the past two years.
Ms. Dishman moved to Fairfield at the age of sixteen and lived in the community for over twenty years. She considers Fairfield her hometown, especially since her daughter was born at Fairfield Memorial Hospital and was raised in Wayne County (Fairfield/Burnt Prairie).
Ms. Dishman was also employed by Fairfield Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse from 1992 until 1997, where she held various roles including being the Med/Surg Department Manager, EMS Coordinator, and ADON/Inservice Director. It was when she left Fairfield Memorial Hospital that she went on to pursue further education to become a Physician Assistant.
”When I left Fairfield Memorial Hospital to pursue further education I hoped to return someday to care for the people I had come to know and love. It is a privilege to be able to see that hope become a reality,” said Ms. Dishman.
Lois Dishman currently resides in McLeansboro, but has plans to relocate to Wayne County in the near future. Her grown daughter, Janelle and son-in-law, Brian Smothers live in Burnt Prairie. She also has a grandson Caleb Smothers.
