FMH REACHES WOMEN AT VOLLEY FOR THE CURE - 2009-09-02

Nearly 1,000 people from Wayne and Edwards counties attended the Volley for the Cure Game FCHS verses ECHS to raise money to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.  Fairfield Memorial Hospital Staff was also in attendance to hand out educational material provided by Susan G. Komen and Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  Over 450 individuals at the event received educational information about breast cancer.

The Volley for the Cure event was more than an evening of fundraising for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  This event was also held to bring awareness about breast cancer to the community and provide hope to those fighting breast cancer, along with remembering loved ones taken by breast cancer. Fundraising dollars are still being gathered by FCHS and a final total will be released when all monies are in.

FMH Diagnostic Imaging Director, Cindy Short, stated, “I want women to realize how important it is to have mammograms and do their self breast exam no matter how young or old.  Women must start at an early age and educate themselves about breast health.  I am truly passionate about educating about breast cancer because it appears to me that breast cancer is beginning to affect younger women and we must educate them.”
