NICOLE FYIE NOW MEDICAL DOCTOR! - 2010-05-10

Nicole Fyie, M.D. received her Medical Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford and participated in the Convocation ceremony on Saturday, May 1.  She was awarded special honors at a Senior Banquet held at the Forest Hills Country Club in Rockford on Friday, April 30.. 

 

Dr. Fyie was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society because of her outstanding humanism in medicine and integrity as a medical student.  The Gold Humanism Honor Society – University of Illinois Rockford Chapter was made possible by a grant from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, a public foundation dedicated to fostering humanism in medicine.  Students selected for membership wore humanism medallions at Convocation. 

 

In addition, Dr. Fyie was also the recipient of the Gary Button, M.D., Rural Primary Care Award.  This award is named in memory of Dr. Gary Button, a graduate of the medical school and family practice residency program in Rockford.  Dr. Button was a longtime family physician in Harvard, Illinois, and a faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Rural Medical Education (RMED) program.  The award is given to a student who exhibits the qualities and characteristics of Dr. Button, is dedicated to a career in primary care, and committed to practicing in a rural community.

 

Dr. Fyie was joined at her graduation and receptions by her close family and friends, which included some of the medical staff and executives of Fairfield Memorial Hospital and Horizon Healthcare.  Those present to celebrate with Dr. Fyie were her parents, Jay and Lisa Fyie; grandmother, Patricia McNeill, and other family members and friends including Gina and Jon Lampley, Allison Robson, Kevin McNeill, Melissa Rinaldi, Jared Vaughan, Larry and Hazel Vest, Katherine Bunting, FMH CEO; Charlotte St.Ledger, FMH Foundation Executive Director; Julie Aman, Director of Physician Practice, Dr. Christopher Ballard, Dr. Wesley Thompson, and Dr. Alberto Salazar.

 

Dr. Fyie will begin her residency in Evansville at Deaconess Family Medicine Residency Program on July 1, 2010.  She will be finished with her residency in June 2013, and will join the medical team at Horizon Healthcare, the hospital-based physician group, which was established by FMH in August of 2008.
