NATURE OF WORK
The Medical–Surgical Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role administers medications, performs assigned nursing procedures, and supports the comfort, safety, and well being of patients across the lifespan. The LPN contributes to accurate documentation, effective communication, and coordinated care delivery while maintaining professional standards and adhering to FMH policies, regulatory requirements, and scope of practice guidelines. The LPN also provides leadership support to Nurse Aides and Desk Secretaries as appropriate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direct patient care and perform assigned nursing procedures to support comfort, safety, and well being.
- Administer medications as ordered and document accurately in the EHR.
- Start and discontinue peripheral IVs, manage IV lines, and administer IV piggyback antibiotics within LPN scope.
- Monitor patients receiving blood products and promptly report changes in condition to the RN.
- Document patient care and ensure RN review and sign off when required.
- Provide patient and family education using the teach back method.
- Maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and providers.
- Demonstrate competence in caring for patients across the lifespan and adhere to FMH policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support effective pain management by administering medications, monitoring response, and documenting outcomes.
