    Minimum Requirements:

    EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

    • · Required: Meets CLIA (42 CFR 493) requirements for Testing Personnel; Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician/Technology program; Current certification through a recognized national certifying agency
    • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related scientific field
     

    EXPERIENCE

    Preferred: 4+ years of experience in high-complexity testing in at least one specialty area

    • Strong laboratory knowledge with accuracy in moderate-to-high complexity testing
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving for troubleshooting and quality assurance
    • Knowledge of CLIA standards, quality control, and regulatory compliance
    • Effective communication and teamwork across clinical and laboratory staff
    • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage workload efficiently

    NATURE OF WORK

    Fairfield Memorial Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist/Scientist to join our Laboratory team. This role is essential to delivering high-quality patient care through accurate specimen processing, testing, and reporting of laboratory results.

    The MLT/MT/MLS performs moderate to high complexity testing, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and supports overall laboratory operations. Depending on qualifications, this position may also provide supervisory oversight, technical guidance, and mentoring to laboratory staff.

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform specimen processing, laboratory testing, and accurate result reporting across multiple disciplines (e.g., hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis)
    • Ensure compliance with all laboratory procedures, quality control standards, and regulatory guidelines (including CLIA requirements)
    • Monitor test performance and identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical or quality issues
    • Document quality control, calibration, maintenance, and corrective actions as required
    • Provide consultation and technical support to laboratory staff as needed
    • Participate in proficiency testing and maintain accurate records
    • Support daily laboratory operations including order processing, reporting, and clerical functions
    • Perform phlebotomy as needed across all patient populations
    • Assist in training new employees and students during clinical rotations
    • Maintain competency across all lab areas while supporting specialized disciplines as assigned
    • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and hazardous material handling guidelines
    • Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure timely and accurate patient care
