EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: RN Illinois Licensure
- Required: BLS and ACLS certified
- Preferred: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
EXPERIENCE:
- Required: Minimum 5 years nursing experience
- Preferred: Supervisory/Management experience
SKILLS:
Excellent computer keyboarding, customer service, organization and communication skills needed. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations through prioritization and multi-tasking as well as providing excellent customer service is important. Leadership and problem solving to support the daily needs of the physician/clinic.
ADDITIONAL:
Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record required. Continuing education certification such as ACLS,PALS,BLS and or Bachelor Degree a plus.
NATURE OF WORK:
The Nurse Manager of the Med-Surg, ICU, and Swing Bed floor, leads frontline staff to provide high quality medical care to patients in observation status, inpatient status, or swing bed for rehabilitation services. The Nurse Manager oversees day to day operations of the unit to ensure timeliness of assessments, medication administration, and order completion. The Nurse Manager collaborates with Hospitalist Practitioners, clinical staff of the unit and other ancillary department staff including therapy services, lab, radiology, pharmacy, etc. to coordinate medical services for patients of the unit. The Nurse Manager reviews Swing Bed referrals from nursing prospective and participates in daily/weekly patient care huddles. The Nurse Manager is an active department leader that attends regular committee meetings, leads performance improvement initiatives, and promotes positive teamwork. The Nurse Manager creates a staffing schedule and fills in as as staff nurse or House Supervisor as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and oversee patient care across Med-Surg, ICU, and Swing Bed units, ensuring timely assessments, medication administration, and order completion
- Supervise and support nursing staff, fostering teamwork and adherence to hospital policies, standards of practice, and regulatory requirements
- Manage daily unit operations including staffing schedules, budgetary performance, and resource allocation
- Collaborate with physicians and ancillary departments (therapy, lab, radiology, pharmacy) to coordinate comprehensive patient services
- Lead performance improvement initiatives, monitor patient satisfaction, and implement corrective actions when needed
- Provide orientation, training, and ongoing evaluation of staff to promote safe work practices, professional growth, and high-quality care
- Actively participate in hospital committees, audits, and workplace safety reviews, reporting concerns and ensuring corrective measures are taken
- Serve as a role model demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and effective communication with patients, families, and staff
