KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee daily operations of the medical-surgical unit to ensure safe, efficient patient care
- Serve as the on-site leadership resource for nursing staff during assigned shifts (often evenings/nights/weekends)
- Coordinate staffing levels, assignments, and patient flow based on census and acuity
- Act as a clinical resource and support for nurses handling complex or high-acuity patients
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Associate Degree and a current and active RN License in Illinois.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three years
- Medical Surgical Unit experience preferred
SKILLS
Exemplary critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills required; ability to work independently as part of a multi-disciplinary team; demonstrated strong communication, organizational and leadership skills.

NATURE OF WORK
Provides leadership and management of professional patient care. Plans and schedules staffing from shift to shift with consideration of patient census and acuity. Assumes responsibility for all areas of patient care delivery and ancillary functions during the assigned shift. Effectively communicates with front line staff, the administrative team, and all nursing and department managers. Assists the Nurse Managers with assigning nursing duties to R.N.'s, L.P.N.'s, Nurse Aides and Desk Secretaries. Works closely with physicians, mid-level practitioners, and all department managers to strive for safe patient care and positive patient outcomes.
