EXPERIENCE
Preferred: Experience with electronic medical record, handling of protected health information, registration and insurance verification in a medical office or hospital setting; Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word; Knowledge of general office business equipment and Internet skills.
SKILLS
Excellent keyboarding, customer service, organization and communication skills needed. Ability to work effectively in stressful situations through prioritization and multi-tasking as well as providing excellent customer service is important. Leadership and problem solving to support the daily needs of the clinic. Microsoft proficiency with Word, Outlook, and Excel.

NATURE OF WORK
The Patient Access Specialist at Horizon Healthcare plays a vital role in supporting daily clinic operations and delivering a seamless patient experience. This position serves as a primary point of contact for patients while coordinating closely with nursing staff, providers, and leadership to meet departmental goals, uphold patient safety standards, and ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
The role is responsible for accurately collecting, entering, and maintaining patient demographic, consent, and insurance information across multiple electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Patient Access Specialist supports efficient clinic workflows by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, obtaining required documentation, and facilitating communication between patients, clinical teams, and external partners. Timely, accurate, and detail-oriented work is essential to ensure continuity of care and support organizational objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and register patients, ensuring a welcoming and professional experience
- Accurately collect, verify, and maintain patient demographic, insurance, and consent information in multiple EHR systems
- Schedule appointments in accordance with provider availability and clinic protocols
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services when applicable
- Obtain required forms, signatures, and documentation in compliance with policies and regulations
- Answer and manage a multi-line phone system, directing calls and addressing patient inquiries
- Collect patient payments and ensure proper documentation of transactions
- Scan, upload, and file protected health information (PHI) in accordance with established procedures
- Compile and transmit required data to the FMH billing department accurately and timely
- Coordinate referrals, requests for outside records, and communication with external offices or agencies
- Collaborate with clinical staff to maintain efficient patient flow and clinic operations
- Adhere to patient safety standards, HIPAA requirements, and all hospital and governmental policies
- Support additional administrative and operational tasks as assigned to meet clinic needs
