    Team Lead Billing Specialist

    Minimum Requirements:

    EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

    · Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

    · Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field

     

    EXPERIENCE:

    · Required: Minimum of 3 years in a business office setting with proven hospital billing knowledge

    · Preferred: Prior experience specifically in hospital or medical billing; familiarity with UB-04, 1500 billing, payer guidelines, and MIS systems

     

    SKILLS

    · Knowledge of basic office equipment and billing forms (UB04, 1500).

    · Ability to work with figures, forms, and financial data accurately.

    · Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    · Effective communication with patients, staff, and external payers.

    · Ability to work independently and follow written/oral instructions.

    · Professionalism, confidentiality, and customer service focus.

    NATURE OF WORK

    Under the general direction of the Director of Business Office, the Team Lead Billing Specialist performs responsible clerical duties to obtain payment for hospital and physician services as quickly and efficiently as possible through accurate and timely billing submissions. This position serves as the first point of contact for billing questions and trains new hires in hospital billing processes.

    Key Responsibilities

    · Maintain accounts receivable for assigned commercial insurance carriers.

    · Process and submit UB04 forms for inpatient/outpatient services and 1500 forms for physician services.

    · Prepare and file claims against estates and medical liens for third-party liability cases.

    · Review, correct, and resubmit returned claims; bill secondary insurance with EOBs.

    · Respond to payer requests, process denial EOBs, and update MIS with corrected information.

    · Conduct follow-up activities, including contacting payers, refiling claims, and processing adjustments.

    · Calculate contractual write-offs and reclass accounts appropriately.

    · Provide itemized bills and explain hospital credit policies to guarantors.

    · Document billing activity thoroughly and maintain updated patient/guarantor information.

    · Serve as primary trainer for Hospital Billing and Posting positions.

    · Assist other departments and managers in the absence of the Business Office Director.

    · Stay current with payer regulations and billing guidelines.
