ER LPN- Full Time Nights

Emergency Room Licensed Practical Nurse

Status: Full Time Nights

Education and Experience: Graduation from accredited School of Nursing.; Active and unencumbered license as an LPN in the State of Illinois.; Current BLS certification required. Basic arrhythmia course (may obtain within six months of hire); ACLS/PALS certification (may obtain within six months of hire); One (1) year experience in an emergency / critical care setting highly preferred but not required

Duties and Responsibilities: Provides supportive care to the Emergency Department patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a multi-disciplinary team member; supports and assists team members in all activities. Communicates in an effective and efficient manner with all documentation, and with all coworkers, patients, visitors, and physicians. Recognizes and reports appropriate data to the Registered Nurse. Assists Registered Nurse and physicians with assessments, examinations, and treatment. Performs and assists with technical skills, including EKG’s, placing patient on the cardiac monitor, HHN treatment, point of care glucometer testing, and other duties within LPN scope of practice as requested by the supervising RN. Performs other duties as inserviced, including crutch walking, dressing changes and assisting physician with splint or cast application. Administers medications as ordered, documents on ED record and evaluates effectiveness of medications administered. Adheres to Fairfield Memorial Hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations, and guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Assists patients to / from vehicle / wheelchair / gurney, as need dictates. Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards. Maintains patient comfort and privacy. Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care, observations, and treatments.
