    FMH Leaders Present at Illinois Hospital Association Symposium

    Fairfield Memorial Hospital is proud to recognize Dana Shantel Taylor, MSW, LCSW, ACSW, ACHE, Chief Operating Officer, and Marissa McKenzie, BBA, Chief People Officer, for serving as panelists during a recent Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) symposium session titled, “Listening to Lead: Using Frontline Input to Drive Proactive Safety Decisions.”

    The symposium brought together healthcare professionals from across Illinois to discuss innovative strategies for improving workplace safety, employee engagement, and organizational culture within healthcare settings. The session had 88 attendees, reflecting strong interest in proactive safety practices and organizational improvement within healthcare organizations. Dana and Marissa had the opportunity to represent not only Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s Human Resources and Risk Management departments, but also Critical Access Hospitals throughout the state.

    During the session, the two leaders shared Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s experience implementing the SQSS system (Strategic Quality Support System) and the measurable impact it has had on organizational reporting and safety culture. Since implementation, the hospital has experienced a 160% improvement in reporting, including increased reporting of near misses, general concerns, safety concerns, grievances, and other workplace issues.

    Dana and Marissa also discussed Fairfield Memorial Hospital’s proactive, multidisciplinary follow-up process after employee injury events. The process includes collaboration among Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance, House Supervisors, Nurse Education, Employee Health, and additional departments to quickly address concerns, mitigate risk, and strengthen overall employee safety initiatives.

    The session received significant engagement from attendees and generated positive feedback from healthcare leaders and organizations throughout the state.

    In a message following the symposium, Michael Benedeck, CHSP, Senior Director of Loss Controlfor Illinois Risk Management Services and Illinois Compensation Trust, praised the presentation and the impact of the discussion.
