Coding Specialist - Health Information - Full Time

STATUS: Full Time, Days

NATURE OF WORK: 

Utilizing ICD10 and CPT coding systems, assign diagnosis and procedure codes as appropriate to clinic and hospital accounts for reimbursement and quality assurance. Perform data collection as needed. Ensure compliance with third-party regulations and requirements. Interact with intradepartmental staff to obtain complete and accurate information by identifying deficiencies and assisting physicians with required chart completion.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology or Health Informatics
• Possess one of the following certifications at time of hire:
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

*Candidates without certification will be required to obtain certification within 1 year of start date of this position

Experience: One year of clinic and hospital coding experience preferred. Knowledge of Rural Health coding procedures and regulations preferred.

Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to work both independently and as a team member. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
